Rolls Royce concept car is unveiled in Geneva

An 'experimental' electric version of the Phantom Rolls Royce was recently launched at the Geneva Motor Show. While officially the company is stressing the car is a "concept" and not for immediate production, it's an exciting development and the prototype is now embarking on a world tour testing durability and customer feedback across Europe, the Middle East, Asia and North America. Based on a regular-length Phantom, the 102EX concept replaces the standard twin-turbo V12 with two electric motors which power the back axle through a single-speed transmission. The 102EX reaches 60mph in "under eight seconds" and can accelerate onto an electronically limited 100 mph maximum - not bad for a car which weighs around 200 kg more than a regular Phantom.

Cygnet rings the changes for Aston Martin

Since its inception 98 years ago, Aston Martin has been synonymous with performance cars. From the 1921 Standard Sports onwards, this quintessentially British marque has made its name in large, powerful sporting and GT models. The arrival of the Cygnet is therefore a radical departure for Aston Martin. Unveiled 12 months ago as a concept car, and then confirmed for production last autumn, the company describe it as a “bespoke luxury commuter car”.

With prices starting from £30,995, the Cygnet brings the Aston Martin badge within reach of a considerably wider audience, and at just three metres in length, its compact dimensions are ideally suited to urban environments where space is often at a premium. Yet behind that diminutive bodyshell, the Cygnet is a thoroughbred Aston Martin, right down to its bespoke nature. With an almost unlimited palette of materials, colours and textures available to choose from, each hand-finished car will be truly unique, and the company has chosen a brace of special launch editions to highlight that fact, christened White and Black. The former delivers a fine encapsulation of the Cygnet ethos thanks to numerous opulent flourishes, from chrome brightwork and White Diamond turned alloy wheels through to seats hand-trimmed in white leather. From within the cockpit, there is no doubt that this is an Aston Martin; the textures, aromas and presentation are all unmistakeable. Furthermore, every Cygnet will be constructed with the same levels of craftsmanship and attention to detail that are imbued into every product designed and built at Aston Martin’s Gaydon manufacturing plant in Warwickshire.
